Mapei Mapepave Slurry Primer (20kg) is a high-performance polymer and cement-based bonding agent designed to secure outdoor paving slabs to their mortar bed. Mixed simply with water, it acts as a essential bridge to create a high-strength adhesive bond.

It is primarily used for:

• Bonding 20mm Outdoor Porcelain: Provides the crucial chemical grip required for non-porous vitrified porcelain slabs, preventing them from de-bonding or lifting from the mortar bed over time.

• Natural Stone & Concrete Paving: Improves adhesion for natural stone flags (such as sandstone, slate, or limestone), concrete slabs, setts, and cobbles.

• Fresh-on-Fresh Mortar Application: Applied directly to the wet mortar bedding layer and the back of the paving slab just before laying to lock the paver into place.

• High-Traffic Patios, Walkways & Driveways: Essential for internal and external hardscaping projects meeting BS 7533 standards for durability against frost, heavy foot traffic, and thermal movement.

How much coverage does a 20kg bag of Mapepave Slurry Primer provide?

A 20kg bag typically covers approximately 12m^2 to 16m^2, depending on the application thickness (recommended thickness is 1mm to 2mm) and the texture of the back of the paving slab.

How do I mix Mapepave Slurry Primer?

Mix a 20kg bag with approximately 4.0 to 4.5 liters of clean water. Use an electric paddle mixer at low speed for 2–3 minutes until you achieve a smooth, lump-free, paintable consistency.

How do I apply the primer to the paving slabs?

Brush or trowel a 1mm to 2mm layer onto the clean underside of each paving slab immediately before placing it onto the fresh, wet mortar bed. It must be applied "wet-on-wet"—do not allow the primer to dry on the back of the slab before laying.

Can I mix Mapepave Slurry Primer in advance?

No. Once mixed with water, the pot life is approximately 60 to 90 minutes at standard ambient temperatures (20 degrees celsius). Only mix what you can use within that timeframe, as adding extra water to dried or stiffening primer degrades its bonding strength.

Is slurry primer really necessary for all types of paving?

While essential for non-porous materials like 20mm vitrified porcelain (which won't bond to mortar without it), it is also strongly recommended for natural stone like Indian sandstone and limestone. It prevents moisture-drawn staining, salt efflorescence, and future slab lifting caused by frost thaw cycles.
