Porcelain Edging Strips are purpose-designed finishing pieces used to create neat, professional borders and transitions in outdoor porcelain paving installations.

Common applications include:

• Bordering Patios & Pathways: Framing the edges of outdoor porcelain tiles to lock them into place and create a crisp, finished perimeter.

• Step Coping & Tread Edging: Providing a smooth, neat finish on stair treads, step risers, and raised patio platforms.

• Retaining Wall Capping: Finishing the tops of low garden walls, planter boxes, or retaining structures to match or contrast with adjacent paving.

• Lawn & Flowerbed Separation: Acting as a clean physical barrier between paved porcelain areas and grass, gravel, or soft landscaping to prevent soil migration.

Why is edging necessary for outdoor porcelain paving?

Outdoor porcelain slabs are factory-rectified, meaning they have precise 90-degree squared corners. Edging strips or border pieces cover exposed outer edges, preventing sharp corners from becoming a safety hazard while protecting the slabs against chipping along the perimeter.

How are porcelain edging strips installed?

Edging strips are laid on the same full, wet mortar bed (4:1 sand and cement mix) as the main porcelain slabs. A bonding slurry must be applied to the back of the edging piece prior to placing it on the mortar to ensure an adhesive bond.

Can I use edging strips as step treads?

Yes. Bullnose or pencil-round porcelain edging strips are frequently used as step copings and treads. Their finished edges reduce trip and cut hazards on step fronts while providing a clean appearance.
