6x4' Wooden Treated Trellis Panel 1230mm x 1829mm
A decorative addition to your garden fencing or a plain wall; this treated, sturdy trellis is ideal for supporting climbing plants.
Wooden Treated Trellis Panels are open-slatted timber frameworks crafted from crisscrossed or square-patterned wooden laths.
Featuring protective vacuum pressure-treatment (Tanalised) or protective dip-treatment, they are primarily used for:
-
Supporting Climbing Plants: Providing a sturdy vertical structure for climbing plants, vines, and flowers—such as clematis, roses, ivy, and honeysuckle—to weave through and grow.
-
Adding Height & Privacy to Fences: Mounting onto the top of existing 6ft fence panels to extend boundary height, increasing garden privacy while still letting natural light and air pass through.
-
Creating Decorative Garden Screens: Partitioning open outdoor spaces into distinct "zones," such as screening off patio dining areas, vegetable patches, compost bins, or utility spaces.
-
Wall-Mounted Landscaping Features: Fixing directly onto exterior brick walls, sheds, or garages to soften hard surfaces with vertical greenery and decorative timber detail.

How do I attach a trellis panel to the top of an existing fence?
Fix wooden trellis clips or L-brackets to the top framing rail of your fence panel or directly onto the side of your wooden fence posts. Screw the bottom rail of the trellis firmly into the brackets. If using slotted concrete posts, slide a concrete-to-timber clip or extender bracket into the concrete post channel to anchor the trellis securely above the fence panel.
Do I need planning permission to add a trellis on top of my fence?
In the UK, the maximum permitted height for residential garden boundary fencing without planning permission is 2 metres (approx. 6.5ft) above ground level. A trellis added to the top of a panel counts toward this total height limit. If adding a trellis takes your fence structure above 2 metres (or above 1 metre if adjacent to a public highway/road), check with your local council planning authority first.
How do I fix a wooden trellis to a brick wall for climbing plants?
Do not fix the trellis directly flush against a brick wall, as plants need space to wrap around the slats and airflow is required to prevent damp buildup. Instead:
-
Screw wooden battens (25x38mm) vertically onto the brick wall using wall plugs and masonry screws.
-
Screw the trellis panel onto the battens, leaving a 25mm air gap behind the trellis.
What climbing plants grow best on a wooden trellis?
-
Self-twining climbers: Clematis, honeysuckle, and jasmine easily wrap their tendrils around narrow timber laths.
-
Climbing roses: Require occasional tie-ins with soft garden twine to train the main stems along the horizontal bars.
-
Heavy climbers (e.g., Wisteria): Require heavy-duty, framed pressure-treated trellis due to the cumulative weight of mature vines.
