V-Groove MDF Pre-Primed Architrave 15 x 69 x 4200mm
Grooved skirting and architrave have seen a surge in popularity in recent years as they can add a modern yet timeless touch to any space. This V-groove profile also has a pencil round top.
V-Groove MDF Pre-Primed Architrave (15mm x 69mm x 4200mm) is a contemporary interior architectural moulding used to frame internal doorways and window openings, covering the unsightly structural gap between the door lining or window frame and the surrounding wall plaster.
Primary Uses & Key Features
-
Door & Window Framing: Creates a clean, decorative border around interior door frames and window cills, hiding raw plasterboard edges and expansion gaps.
-
Matching Interior Skirting: Designed to pair directly with V-Groove profile skirting boards to maintain a consistent, modern decorative line throughout the room.
-
Wall Protection: Protects the high-traffic plaster corners surrounding doorways from impact, chips, and hand scuffs.
-
Pre-Primed Surface Finish: Factory-coated with a smooth white primer, eliminating the need for knot sealing or undercoating and offering a ready base for your topcoat of paint.
-
Moisture-Resistant MDF: Made from high-density MR-MDF, ensuring the architrave remains straight, knot-free, and resistant to warping or splitting over time.
-
Slim 15mm Depth & Extra-Long 4.2m Length: The 15mm profile sits flush against standard trim, while a single 4.2mm length provides enough material to frame both sides and the header of a standard door casing with minimal waste.

How many lengths of 4.2m architrave are needed to frame a standard door?
A single 4200mm board is usually enough to frame one complete side of a standard single door frame (2 x 2100mm upright legs plus the top header). You will need two 4.2m lengths to frame both sides (front and back) of a doorway.
What is the best way to cut 45-degree mitre joints for architrave corners?
Use a mitre saw equipped with a sharp, fine-toothed blade (60+ teeth). Measure from the inside corner of the door lining where the architrave will sit, mark a small reveal line (usually 5mm back from the inner edge of the frame), and cut your 45-degree angled mitres to meet those reveal marks.
Why should you leave a 5mm reveal on the door lining when fitting architrave?
Fitting the architrave completely flush with the edge of the door frame can cause binding issues with hinges and locks, and any natural movement in the wall will show gaps. Leaving a uniform 5mm step (reveal) creates a clean, professional shadow line and ensures smooth door clearance.
How do you join a 15mm thick architrave to an 18mm thick skirting board?
Because the 18mm skirting board is slightly thicker than the 15mm architrave, the skirting will naturally sit proud of the architrave casing at the base. You can either chamfer the top front corner of the skirting board slightly for a neat transition or use a decorative plinth block at the floor junction.
What adhesive or fixings should be used to mount MDF architrave?
Apply a zigzag bead of high-tack construction adhesive to the reverse side of the board and press it against the wall. Secure it into the timber door lining using fine 30mm to 40mm second-fix brad nails or lost-head pins driven through the face of the architrave.
