Is a 10T galvanised cover equivalent to a B125 ductile iron cover?
They serve similar vehicle access requirements (like driveways and small commercial yards), but the testing standards differ. A 10T GPW cover is rated for a 10-tonne overall vehicle weight (approx. 2.5-tonne wheel load) under fabrication standards, whereas a B125 cover is tested to BS EN 124 standards for a 125kN (12.5-tonne) direct load capacity.
Can this cover be installed in a public highway or road?
No. Galvanised steel covers rated at 10T GPW are intended for private driveways, commercial property access roads, and off-street parking areas. Public highways and high-speed municipal roads strictly require C250 or D400 ductile iron covers installed to highway authority standards.
Does this 10T cover come with locking screws?
Our 10T galvanised models include corner locking screws or locking tabs to fix the lid firmly into the frame. Securing these screws helps prevent unauthorized removal, reduces lid movement, and provides a tighter seal against water ingress and odours.
How do you lift a heavy 10T steel cover safely?
10T covers feature heavy-duty integral lifting keyholes or drop-down handles built into the steel plate. Insert standard manhole lifting keys into the slots or pull up the built-in handles, lifting straight upward with a two-person lift or mechanical lifter to prevent strain.
