What is the advantage of a circular 450mm cover over a rectangular one?
A circular cover cannot fall through its own opening regardless of the angle at which it is handled or dropped, making it significantly safer and easier to position onto a round chamber riser during installation and routine maintenance.
How is a circular frame secured to a plastic inspection chamber?
The frame is placed directly on top of the uppermost chamber riser section or concrete bedding ring. It is typically bedded on a thin layer of mortar or secured with a flexible sealant, ensuring the frame sits flush with the surrounding patio slabs or lawn.
Can a 450mm cast iron cover be used on a paved driveway?
No. An A15 load rating is strictly limited to 1.5 tonnes of pedestrian weight. Vehicle tyres—especially when turning or braking—will crack cast iron rated only for A15. Driveway applications require a B125 (12.5-tonne) or higher rating.
Does this 450mm circular cover include a seal against odors?
Standard solid top cast iron covers rely on a flush metal-to-metal fit to contain general chamber air. If the chamber is located close to living areas, you should use a rubber gasketed, sealed version or apply grease along the internal frame channel to prevent sewer smells from escaping.
How do you lift a 450mm circular cast iron lid out of its frame?
The lid features integrated lifting keyholes cast into the perimeter. You insert standard T-bar lifting keys, turn them 90 degrees to engage the underside of the casting, and pull straight up to clear the frame.
