Black polypropylene gully grid with downpipe knock-out section. For connecting downpipe directly to underground drainage section. Compatible with Polypipe, Hepworth, Osma, Hunter, Marley, Brett & Marshall Tufflex.
A Black Plastic Gully Grid is a protective cover that sits directly on top of an outdoor gully, drain hopper, or bottle gully. It acts as a safety barrier and primary strainer for surface water drainage around homes and gardens.
Primary Uses & Key Features
-
Debris Filtering: Blocks leaves, twigs, stones, and litter from falling into the gully pot, preventing underground drain blockages.
-
Safety Cover: Bridges the top opening of open gullies to keep pets, small animals, and pedestrians from accidentally stepping into or getting caught in the drain pit.
-
Corrosion & Weather Resistance: Made from UV-stabilized uPVC or polypropylene, it won't rust, rot, or degrade when exposed to standing water, sunlight, or household waste.
-
Easy Access: Sits loosely or clips lightly into place, allowing you to lift it off quickly to inspect, clear out, or rod the gully underneath.

Can I drive a car over a plastic gully grid?
No. Our standard plastic gully grids are rated for light pedestrian traffic only (Class A15). Driving a car over them will cause the plastic to crack. For driveways or areas with vehicle traffic, replace the plastic grid with a ductile iron or heavy-duty metal grate.
Can I cut a hole in a plastic gully grid for a downpipe?
Yes. If your rainwater downpipe or waste pipe discharges into the top of the gully, you can use a hole saw or utility knife to cut a circular notch out of the grid bars so the pipe passes neatly through while keeping the rest of the drain covered.
How often should a gully grid be cleaned?
Check and clear the grid monthly—or more frequently during autumn—to scoop away leaves, moss, and garden debris. Blocking the grid slots will prevent surface water from entering, causing local pooling or flooding around the drain.
