38 x 63 mm (Ex 50 x 75mm) CLS Timber Kiln Dried 2400mm
Our 50 x 75mm CLS Timber (finished size approximately 38 x 63mm) is a high-quality, kiln-dried timber ideal for internal framing and stud wall construction. With its smooth, planed surface and eased edges, this timber is easy to handle, cut, and install?making it a go-to choice for both DIYers and professional builders.
Kiln Dried CLS Timber (Canadian Lumber Standard / Construction Lumber Standard) is softwood timber—typically pine, spruce, or fir—that has been kiln-dried to lower its moisture content, planed smooth on all four sides, and finished with distinct curved/eased corners.
It is primarily used for:
-
Internal Stud Walls & Partitioning: The industry-standard choice for constructing internal non-load-bearing and load-bearing timber stud walls, rooms, and room dividers in residential and commercial buildings.
-
Timber Frame Building Construction: Fabricating wall panels, internal studwork frames, and timber skeletons for house builds, garden rooms, and extensions.
-
Dry Lining & Wall Battening: Creating a level sub-frame attached to solid masonry or concrete walls before fixing plasterboard or insulation panels.
-
Shed, Outbuilding & Garage Framing: Constructing sturdy internal wall frames, workbenches, and ceiling supports for outbuildings, sheds, and garages.
-
To create a smooth surface all round, the timber is planed on each side. This results in a "finished size" which is 11-12mm less than the "nominal size" both width and length-ways.

Why does CLS timber have curved/rounded edges?
The curved or "eased" corners (3mm - 5mm radius) are a core design feature of Canadian Lumber Standard timber. They make the studs safer and easier to handle on construction sites, significantly reduce splinters, and prevent corner chipping during transit.
Why is CLS timber kiln-dried?
Kiln drying reduces the moisture content of the wood to below 20% (often around 12%–15%). This pre-shrinks the timber before installation, making it stronger, lighter, and far less likely to warp, twist, shrink, or split once fixed inside a heated building.
Can CLS timber be used outdoors?
Untreated CLS timber is meant for internal dry applications only. If used in damp environments, outdoors, or in ground contact, untreated CLS will quickly rot. For outdoor use (like decking frames or garden structures), use pressure-treated (tanalised) C16/C24 structural timber instead.
What stud centers should I use when framing a wall with CLS timber?
Construct your stud framework at either 400m or 600mm centers (measured from the center of one stud to the center of the next). These standard spacings align perfectly with standard 1200mm-wide plasterboard sheets, ensuring board edges land directly over a stud face.
