10mm Pea Gravel Bulk Bag
10-5mm or 3/4" gravel/shingle can be used in a variety of applications including pathways, drainage & dressing. The colour is resistant to fading and the hard stones also resist crushing. The mixture of smooth and angular stones help to reduce migration and minimise brushing.
Available in: Bulk Bags (approx 1 tonne), Half Bulk Bags (approx 1/2 tonne) Bulk Loose (from 1/2 tonne, on enquiry), Poly Bags (approx 25kg)
As an approximate guide, one bulk bag will cover:
• 12–14m² at a depth of 40mm
• 10–12m² at a depth of 50mm
• 6.5–7.5m² at a depth of 75mm
Garden paths, flower borders, and decorative rockeries commonly require around 35mm to 50mm of pea gravel, while pipe bedding and drainage channels may require 75mm or more depending on project requirements.
These figures are estimates only. Actual coverage will vary according to the bag weight, ground conditions, compaction and the accuracy of the excavation.

10mm pea gravel is intended as a decorative surface, pipe bedding, or drainage material. Colour, shape, and smooth rounded texture can vary according to the source of the aggregate.
Excavate the area to the required depth and prepare the ground appropriately. A suitable geotextile membrane may be required to prevent weed growth and stop the subgrade from mixing with the aggregate.
Spread the 10mm pea gravel evenly over the prepared sub-base to the recommended depth, typically around 40mm to 50mm for garden borders, footpaths, and pipe bedding, or 50mm to 75mm for decorative ground cover. Rake the gravel to ensure an even distribution across the entire area.
Check the finished surface level and slope to ensure proper drainage away from surrounding structures. Ensure the gravel depth is consistent to prevent exposed patches or uneven surface layers.
Requirements vary according to ground conditions, loading, and the intended use of the surface. Follow the project specification or seek professional advice where appropriate.
Available for collection from our Rugby branch or local delivery using our own fleet.

What is 10mm gravel?
10mm gravel, also known as pea shingle or small aggregate, consists of small, naturally rounded or crushed stones roughly 10mm in diameter. Its fine size gives it a smooth appearance and makes it easy to rake and spread.
What is the difference between 10mm gravel and 20mm gravel?
10mm gravel consists of smaller, finer stones that provide a smoother surface underfoot, making it popular for footpaths and decorative garden borders. 20mm gravel uses larger stones that interlock more firmly, making it better suited for driveways where heavier loads are applied.
Is 10mm gravel suitable for driveways?
While it can be used on driveways, 10mm gravel is generally less ideal than 20mm gravel. Because of its smaller size, 10mm gravel is more likely to get stuck in car tire treads, kick up easily, or shift around under vehicular weight.
Does 10mm gravel help with drainage?
Yes. Like all gravel products, 10mm gravel is fully permeable and allows rainwater to filter naturally through to the ground beneath. It is frequently used for pipe bedding, land drains, and around drainage channels.
Do I need a geotextile membrane under 10mm gravel?
Yes, laying a weed-suppression membrane underneath is highly recommended. Because 10mm gravel consists of small particles, a membrane prevents the stones from migrating down into the subsoil over time and stops weeds from taking root.
Why does the color of 10mm gravel vary?
10mm gravel is a natural product quarried from varied rock formations (such as flint, quartz, or river gravel). As a result, its natural tones—ranging from warm golden shades to soft greys—will vary by region and look significantly brighter when dry than when wet.
