Softwood TGV (Tongue & Groove V-Joint) Green Treated Cladding / Matchboarding is a heavy-duty, pressure-treated timber board used to create decorative, weather-resistant internal and external walls.

Primary Uses & Key Features

• External Wall Cladding: Widely used to clad garden sheds, summerhouses, home offices, garbage bin stores, and timber-framed outbuildings.

• Internal Matchboarding & Feature Walls: Creates classic V-joint wall panelling, ceiling linings, and wainscoting in utility rooms, porches, workshops, and hallways.

• Green Tanalised Pressure Treatment: Impregnated with a green preservative to protect the timber against fungal decay, rot, and insect attack in outdoor damp conditions.

• V-Joint Aesthetic Profile: Machined with a tongue-and-groove joint that features a subtle chamfered edge. When two boards interlock, they form a distinct "V" groove, offering a clean, decorative finish.

• 16mm Thickness: Provides extra structural rigidity, dimensional stability, and impact resistance compared to thinner 12mm or 15mm cladding boards.

What is the difference between TGV cladding and Shiplap cladding?

TGV features a chamfered "V" groove on both sides of the interlocking joint, creating a flush, decorative surface. Shiplap features a curved scalloped lip at the top of the board, which is specifically designed to shed heavy rainwater away from external walls.

Why does the timber have a greenish tint when purchased?

The green hue is a natural result of the pressure-treatment process, where copper-based wood preservatives (like Tanalith E) are forced deep into the timber fibers. As the wood weathers over time in the sun, this colour naturally fades into a warm golden brown and eventually a silver-grey.

Can green treated TGV matchboarding be used indoors?

Yes, but only in non-habitable or well-ventilated spaces such as garages, workshops, utility rooms, or porches. For indoor living spaces (like bedrooms or living rooms), un-treated interior matchboarding is preferred to avoid indoor air contact with outdoor wood preservatives.

What fixings are recommended to prevent black staining on the wood?

Always use stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised nails or screws. Standard steel fixings react with the copper salts in the pressure treatment, which causes unsightly black bleeding streaks to run down the face of the boards.

Do cut ends need additional treatment on site?

Yes. Cross-cutting a board breaks the outer protective envelope created by the pressure treatment. You must apply a liberal coat of brush-on end-grain preservative to all cut ends, drill holes, or notch cuts to maintain full protection against rot.
