How do I finish and protect the cut edges?

When you cut the board to size, the core material (chipboard or MDF) is exposed. You should apply matching melamine or PVC iron-on edging tape using a household iron to seal the raw edges, giving it a neat, professional appearance and preventing moisture entry.

Is melamine faced board waterproof?

The melamine surface itself is moisture-resistant and easy to wipe clean, but the exposed core materials (typically chipboard or standard MDF) are not waterproof. If water penetrates unsealed cut edges or joins, the core can swell.

What is the best way to clean melamine surfaces?

Wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid using abrasive scouring pads, steel wool, or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can scratch or dull the smooth melamine finish.

Can I screw directly into the face of a melamine board?

Yes, you can screw into the face, but for strong joints (such as assembling cabinet carcasses), it is always best to pre-drill pilot holes and use confirmat screws or jointing brackets to avoid splitting the core material.
