6x3' Treated Timber Feather Edge Gate 1829 x 915mm
The Feather edge gate is ideal for use in conjunction with all Feather edge panels. The gate is made from pressure-treated timber ensuring longevity in use.
6x3' Treated Timber Feather Edge Gates (1828x915mm) are heavy-duty, high-security timber garden gates designed to match closeboard or feather edge fencing.
Constructed with thick, vertical overlapping feather edge boards fixed onto strong horizontal framing battens and reinforced with diagonal bracing, they are primarily used for:
-
High-Security Garden Access: Providing a robust, solid entry point for side alleys, garden paths, and rear access routes that resists forced entry better than standard lap gates.
-
Seamless Closeboard Integration: Matching perfectly with adjacent 6ft feather edge or closeboard fence panels to create a continuous, professional-looking perimeter line.
-
Privacy & Boundary Control: Blocking all line-of-sight into side passages or rear gardens to maintain complete privacy and keep children or pets safely enclosed.
-
Exposed & Windy Openings: Offering superior strength and warp resistance in wind-prone locations compared to lighter garden gates.

What type of hinges and hardware should I use for a feather edge gate?
Because feather edge gates are significantly heavier than lap gates, use heavy-duty galvanised ironmongery:
-
Hinges: 18-inch (450mm) hook and band hinges or heavy-duty Tee hinges.
-
Latch: A double-sided ring latch or a Suffolk latch.
-
Security: A heavy-duty slide bolt, long throw gate lock (e.g., Codelocks or Euro-cylinder lock), or a padbolt with a weatherproof padlock.
Which way should the rear Z-brace face when hanging the gate?
The diagonal bracing timber on the back of the gate MUST point upwards away from the hinge side (from the bottom hinge corner up to the top latch corner). This structural compression brace transfers the gate's heavy weight back into the hinge post, preventing the gate from dropping or sagging over time.
What size gate posts do I need to support a 6x3' feather edge gate?
Use a minimum post size of 100x100mm (4x4") pressure-treated timber posts set at least 600mm (2ft) deep into the ground with fast-set post mix concrete. Do not hang heavy feather edge gates directly off standard 75x75mm (3x3") fence posts.
