38mm Pressed Light Duty Concrete Slabs are hydraulically pressed, British Standard (BS EN 1339) concrete paving flags designed for general pedestrian use and light-duty landscaping. Lighter and easier to handle than 50mm or 70mm commercial flags, they are commonly used for:

While both are 35mm to 38mm thick and targeted at domestic use, 38mm pressed slabs are hydraulically pressed under high factory pressure rather than vibrated or cast. This manufacturing process makes them denser, more uniform, and structurally compliant with British Standards for commercial and public pedestrian applications.

What foundation is required for installing 38mm pressed slabs?

Lay the slabs on a compacted sub-base of MOT Type 1 (75mm to 100mm deep) topped with a full mortar bed (4:1 sharp sand to cement mix). Avoid spot-bedding, as uniform support across the entire slab is required to prevent cracking under point loads.

Can 38mm pressed slabs be used for a driveway?

No. At 38mm thickness, these slabs are engineered exclusively for pedestrian traffic and light utility loads. Driving a car over them will cause the slabs to crack and break under the vehicle's weight.
