ACO HexDrain & Black Plastic Grate is a lightweight, high-strength surface water drainage system designed to effectively collect and channel away excess rainwater and standing water around domestic properties.

What load class rating does ACO HexDrain have?

ACO HexDrain with a standard black plastic grate is typically rated to Load Class A 15 under BS EN 1433, making it suitable for pedestrian traffic, pedal cycles, and occasional domestic car traffic (such as residential driveways).

Do I need to encase the HexDrain channel in concrete when installing?

For standard domestic pedestrian and driveway applications, HexDrain channels generally do not require a full concrete surround. They are designed to be haunched and bedded in a lean mix concrete or well-compacted sharp sand and cement base, provided the surrounding paving is laid correctly.

How do I connect the drainage channel to underground plastic pipe?

The HexDrain system includes pre-formed knockout sections along the bottom and end faces of the channel. You can easily cut or punch out these points to connect directly to standard 110mm underground drainage pipes using bottom-outlet connectors or adapters.

How do I prevent leaves and debris from clogging the drainage channel?

The black plastic grates act as a primary debris trap. For maintenance, simply lift or unscrew the grates periodically and scoop out any accumulated silt, leaves, or dirt, then flush the channel through with a hosepipe.

Can ACO HexDrain be installed against a damp-proof course (DPC)?

When installing drainage channels adjacent to a building threshold or exterior wall, ensure the top of the grate sits at least 150mm below the damp-proof course (DPC) level to prevent water from splashing up against or pooling above the property's moisture barrier.

Do I need to seal the joints between individual HexDrain channels?

The channels feature an interlocking male-and-female clip design for easy alignment. While they fit tightly together, applying a bead of exterior-grade waterproof silicone sealant or bitumen sealant to the joint during assembly helps ensure a watertight run.
