6x3' Timber Lap Panel Fence Gates (1828x915mm) are compact, fully framed timber garden gates designed to match traditional horizontal lap fencing.

Constructed with horizontal overlapping timber slats enclosed within a rigid outer framing timber, they are primarily used for:

Which way round should the diagonal z-bracing go when hanging the gate?

The rear diagonal brace acts as a compression brace to prevent the gate from sagging. Always position the gate so the bottom end of the diagonal brace is on the hinge side and the top end points up toward the latch side. This transfers the weight of the gate down into the hinge post.

What size gap should I leave for installation?

Allow roughly 10mm to 15mm clearance on the hinge side and 10mm on the latch side, plus an extra 25mm to 50mm ground clearance at the bottom so the gate swings smoothly without scraping the ground.

Can I cut a 6x3' lap gate down to a narrower width?

Yes. To narrow the gate, unscrew the vertical outer frame timber on one side, saw through the horizontal overlap slats to your target width, and screw the vertical frame timber back onto the newly cut edge.

What hinges and latches should I use?

For a timber lap gate:

• Hinges: Pair of 12-inch or 14-inch (300mm - 350mm) galvanised Tee hinges.

• Latch: A galvanised Suffolk latch or a ring latch for opening from both sides.

• Security: A slide bolt or tower bolt combined with a weatherproof padlock.
