The White Knotting 300ml (also known as white knotting solution or patent knotting) is a specialist resin-based sealing fluid designed to treat knots and resinous streaks in softwood prior to painting. Formulated with a pale shellac or synthetic resin base, this white-pigmented solution prevents natural timber resins from bleeding through finished paintwork and causing discolouration, yellowing, or blistering.
 
Equipped with a fast-drying, rapid-evaporating formula, white knotting is applied using a fine brush directly onto bare, sanded timber knots before priming or undercoating. Unlike traditional brown or dark knotting solutions, the white-pigmented finish provides superior coverage under white and light-coloured topcoats, reducing the number of undercoat applications required to achieve an even, opaque finish.
 
Ideal for prep work on interior and exterior woodwork—including door frames, skirtings, window sashes, and cladding—this 300ml tin provides ample coverage for domestic joinery projects. Do not sandpaper knotting once applied.

Resinous and creosoted timber should be sealed completely with 2 coats.
 
Knotting should not be used under polyurethane clear varnishes, water based varnishes or water based paints.
