• Cabinetry & Internal Doors: Secures glass panels in kitchen wall units, display cabinets, sideboards, and internal glazed doors while providing a neat, finished timber border.

• Decorative Panel Framing: Serves as a lightweight decorative trim to highlight timber wall panelling, create faux picture frames on flush doors, or border decorative inlay panels.

• Sealing & Draught Reduction: Creates a tight, mechanical seal against glazing tape or rubber gaskets, helping to prevent draughts, rattle, and water ingress around glass edges.

How do I install glass bead moulding in a window or door frame?

Apply glazing tape or a bed of silicone sealant along the frame rebate, position the glass panel, and press the glass bead firmly against it. Secure the bead using fine lost-head panel pins or headless brad nails driven at a slight angle into the frame.

Do I need to acclimate softwood glass bead before fitting?

Yes. Store the timber flat inside the installation area for 3 to 5 days before fitting so the wood adjusts to the ambient humidity and temperature, preventing shrinkage or warping after installation.

How do I join glass bead mouldings at the frame corners?

Cut 45-degree mitre joints using a fine-toothed mitre saw or hand mitre shears. Because glass beads are thin, take extra care to support the timber while cutting to avoid splitting the ends.

Should softwood glass bead be painted or sealed before installation?

Yes. It is best practice to seal or prime all faces of the bead—including the back and cut ends—before installation. This protects the softwood against moisture absorption, particularly on external windows or in areas prone to condensation.

How do I remove old glass bead without damaging the surrounding frame?

Carefully slice through any paint or silicone joint along the edge of the bead using a sharp utility knife. Gently insert a wide, flat putty knife or chisel behind the bead near a fixing point and pry it outward slowly to avoid snapping the thin timber.

Can softwood glass bead be used on external windows?

Yes, provided it is fully sealed with an exterior-grade paint, wood stain, or varnish and installed alongside suitable exterior glazing tape or silicone to keep wind-driven rain from reaching raw wood.
