Decorative chippings and pebbles are invaluable for making surroundings look more natural, providing year-round colour and suppressing weed growth.

Stonemarket have carefully chosen a range of washed and graded natural stone from approved sources that is suitable for decorative use.
 

Size ranges are given as a guide; British Standards do allow a proportion of other sizes within graded quarry products. Several of our products are available in various grades that can be used together to produce a scree effect. These are linked by the same colour triangle in the top right of their photographs.
 

Stone is washed using equipment available at the quarry and usually requires further cleansing to reveal its full natural colours. When used for a path, driveway or bedded on soil, rainfall will normally achieve this. For indoor use and whenever an immediate decorative impact is desired, we recommend rewashing before laying in position.
 

Before using any stone in or adjacent to water features, copiously rinse with clean water to remove any residual sediment or soluble chemicals that might cloud the water or affect aquatic life. The types marked contain lime and will increase alkalinity which may become harmful to some aquatic life or affect certain plants if not monitored and adjusted regularly.

All natural products do vary, so we recommend that you purchase the total quantity required for your project at one time. They are available in handy polybags, bulk sacks or even loose tipped loads when large quantities are needed.

Laying advice

A polybag of chippings typically covers 0.8sqm in lightly used decorative applications. A bulk sack covers approximately 12sqm  at a suitable depth for more heavily used areas and contains the equivalent of 40 polybags. Before making a bulk purchase we recommend you spread out a polybag quantity within the relevant area to assess the effect produced.
